Is it too early to change my nose ring?

So I got my nose pierced about 2 months ago and I really want to change it. I got it pierced with a stud and I would like to change it to a hoop. I went back to the place I got it pierced last weekend and asked if I could change it and they said that my nose is still a little swollen on the inside and said to wait longer. So my question is if I change it while it's still a little swollen will it get infected? It doesn't hurt at all anymore and i can twist it without it hurting but I just want to make sure it won't get infected if its still a little swollen.
